as I’m going to sleep last night I think to myself randomly (I was reading a Stephen Lawhead book with nothing to do with heaven & hell) if heaven/kingdom of God is going amazing – beyond our wildest expectations and hell is like the opposite, far worst than anything we can imagine, perhaps if we toned down heaven and it wasn’t as good so that Hell being an equal opposite wouldn’t be so bad for those there. As soon as I have gone through thinking a thought interjects itself in my mind. It was in my mind but I didn’t think it. It was not a reasoning thought along the lines of which I was thinking and it interjected itself into my mind with such force that it surprised me. It really surprised me and this is the thought:

“I don’t agree”

I’m stunned and didn’t think anything for a while, and I start to rationalise where did that thought come from, so i ask God the question “why don’t you agree”

the response wasn’t a forceful as the first thought but it was there all the same, it was much more gentle and more difficult to distinguish from a normal reasoning thought and it simply went – “its never the way I intended it.”

The main point here is not so much the theologically correction but the way God can speak to us – so naturally. My ‘theory’ is that the more we train our spirit and feed it  the more senstive we became to hearing God’s voice. The spirit needs God’s word. As our spirit becomes stronger perhaps it is able to function better within us and it can naturally move in faith and love and get god’s thoughts into our brain. If we never feed it, it can never function properly

3 days later they find Jesus learning from the teachers of the law in the temple. His parents understandably were upset and relieved. Jesus response was interesting – he wanted to be in his fathers house. He wanted to learn and become a disciple. At 12-13 in the Jewish culture you become an adult and he took it upon himself at an early age to enlist himself as a disciple to the best minds of the time. In fact it probably no small coincidence that arguably some of the greatest Jewish mind in regards to the knowledge of the law and god proceeded Jesus and his ministry. They were there to prepare the way for the messiah.

On that very day Mary and Joseph fing Jesus in the temple asking question he may have been there with the great rabbi Hillel whom many of Jesus teachings and parables seemed to be influenced by. This is purely speculation, but I would guess that Jesus may have enlisted himself as a disciple of hillel or certainly spent as much time as he could with him.

The question I ask myself – who is my hillel? Proverbs goes to say it is foolish to not have counsellors and do life on our own. If you would like to pray with me feel free – lord, show me my counsellors, the people who can disciple me. Bring them into my life so they can draw me closer to you. Lord I want to know you more and what is on your heart. Help me to be humble so I can receive them and their words so I can be more like you. Lord, do something amazing in and thru my life. Amen and amen.
